in the things humans make, I want to
see scars, failure, disorder,
distortion.”— Yohji Yamamoto

From 2004-2004 Kim
created the first
in-house label,
‘Prince Billy’ for the
iconicFat52 / Fat272
independent design
stores. A
collaboration with
the four owners,
the label responded
to the
practicalities of
being commuter
cyclists, drawing
detailing and
seasonal narrative
from the
aristocratic
wardrobes of the
‘keep-fit 1940’s
aesthetic.Our label’s
namesake
protagonist, Prince
Billy, was a
recalcitrant
Russian
tomboy,travelling
through each
collection through
the social and
political lens of
wartimeEurope. Each
collection first
evolved through
historical research,
collage and
thereconstruction
of vintage
garments, ensuring
new styles would
evoke seams from
the past. Kim has
returned to her
exploration of
commuter fashion,
through a slowly
evolving
collaboration with
Melbourne-based
cycling company
Pedla.

We believe the key ingredients required to achieve transformation are already present within an organisation or a space, but may need to be re-seen.
